Welcome to my blog.

Welcome to my MySigs blog. I am redSHIFT, a web designer and developer (coding Valid Tableless XHTML and programming in PHP and Java). I am a regular at the ClanTemplates Forums and am desperately trying to get myself onto the front page of MySigs :-)

I am currently not accepting MySigs coding requests, although you can check out some of my MySigs designs in my gallery, or on my portfolio.

MySigs Help Guide - Part 1

The MySigs Help Guide
Part 1 - The Basics

In this Part...

1.1 - Introduction
Firstly, welcome to MySigs! You've just discovered one of the greatest places to blog and build a portfolio of your art at the same time. In this first section I'm going to teach you how to get the basics of the MySigs Control Panel under your control. You'll learn how to get a template running, start posting blog entries, use your shoutbox and upload signatures into your gallery. Have fun!

1.2 - Navigating the Control Panel
Log-in to MySigs.com and you'll be presented with the home section of your Control Panel. Here you can view your latest blog entries (the news Sidebox), the url for your MySigs site, your display name and the e-mail address registered to your account. Look to the top and you will see stats for portfolios etc. but underneath that is the Navigation Bar for the CP (Control Panel). The pages are described below:
    Home - User CP Home
    News - Blog Postings
Gallery Management - Sig/art uploading center
Template Management - Skin/Theme editing center
    Shoutbox - Tagbox moderation panel
Content Pages - Custom Pages panel
Friends - Friend adding and moderation
Options - General options such as Blog settings, Tagbox settings and IP Banning tool.
Statistics - tells you the amount of hits you're getting for your art.
Upgrade - Where you can upgrade your account. This offers unlimited uploads and no advertisments.

1.3 - Uploading Signatures and Creating Collections
Ok so this is what you signed up for isn't it? To show off your artwork. Navigate to the Gallery Management Panel and we'll begin. You should see an empty table and two links on the side. Click "Add new category". First name your new category (for example: "Abstract sigs") and give it a description (eg "Sigs using Abstract Brushes and styles). Now select whether you'd like your sigs to be viewable to everyone, only users on your friends list or noone except you (this is useful for, say Theme Images). If you want people to see your sigs click on the "Public" radio button and then "Save". Great, we have a category! Now to upload, you should be returned to the Gallery Management Page so click on the name of the category you just added to uplaod sigs. Click the link (top-left) which says "Upload Images" to go to the Uploading page. For each image give it a title, description (optional), choose a style, set comments to on or off and then browse to the image in the box below that. Add as many images as you like then scroll down to the bottom and click         "UPLOAD". This may take time if you are uploading large images or a lot of them. Great, now we've uploaded our sigs so onto choosing a template for your site.

1.4 - Choosing a Sample Template
Sultan's selection of free templates avaliable for you to use is pretty good as they are all high quality templates (for those who don't know Sultan is part of Zesix which means he is responisble for CT, MySigs and SOTW). Move to the template management screen and click the image of a template to edit. If you'd like to leave it as it is click "Save" at the bottom. Editing templates is discussed later on. Now that you've chosen a template your site should show up.

1.5 - Posting to your blog
This is discussed further later but for now we'll take a quick dive into posting your first entry. Click "News" at the top. Now "Post News" on the side. this will come up with the editor. Type in a title (i.e. Welcome to my Blog!) and then write in your entry in the editor. The controls below it are discussed later so click "Post News" and it will appear on your site.

1.6 - Editing your profile

On the 'Home' screen under your details there is a link called "Edit Profile". Click it and you will be taken to the profile screen. Here you can upload a profile picture, change your display name ad your email. Please note that your MySigs url cannot be changed and that your profile picture may not change instantly. If it still shows your old one on the Home screen press Ctrl + F5 - which will comepletely refresh the page.

1.7 Configuring the options
Head to "Options" on the top link bar. First we will change our Sig (Site) details. You can enter the title for your site in the box and add a description as well. Also you can choose a smilies set that will go with your sig. Next are the shoutbox controls - these disable or enable your shoutbox from appearing. Underneath that are the design options or the shoutbox. The colors are hexadecimal - i.e. #FFF is white and #000 is black. There is a link to a colour-to-hexadecimal converter in the Design Guide. And lastly the IP banner. If someone is repeatedly harrassing yor blog or shoutbox - leaving undesired comments and the rest of it you can ban their IP here. If you look on the "Shoutbox" link (at the top) it will show you the IPs of each poster - you can copy&paste them into the banner and they will not be allowed access to your blog.
